MEET OUR BOARD MEMBERS

Caron Wallace - Chair of the board
"I joined the Parent Board in 2017 and became Chair 3 months later. I soon realised the true potential of the Board so I focused on developing existing relationships and making new connections with the community and Children’s services to raise awareness of the Board’s work. My daughter has been under the care of Paediatricians since she was 7 months old due to being diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and ADHD so we have h
ad a lot of support from various services and I wanted to give back to the community, striving to achieve changes where needed."

Kara Jewell - Board
member

"I joined the board as a member in March 2020 after leaving my employment working with families of children with disabilities. I felt that I still wanted to share my skills and knowledge with the local community. I am a parent of two teenagers with additional needs and I understand the struggles many families have. My biggest achievement for the board is widening the group of parents and helping develop the parent champion role."

Melissa Healy - Board member
"I joined the Portsmouth Parent Board because I am passionate about working in co-production with services for families in Portsmouth to ensure that are meeting the needs of those who need to access them. As a family we have had the support of some amazing services but we have also had some traumatic experiences. Working with PPB gives me the opportunity to ensure other families don't encounter the same problems. I'm incredibly grateful and proud to be a part of such an amazing organisation."

Alison Bond - Board member :
"I was invited to join by Caron (the Chair). Being a Portsmouth parent and having youth worker/manager experience I felt this would give me the opportunity to advocate for and make a difference to local families. As a board we play an important part in helping various organisations focus more on the needs of families and making their information and services increasingly parent/child friendly, inclusive and accessible. Personally, I have become more involved with Home-Start Portsmouth, volunteering at Stay & Play groups which has increased my community knowledge and ability to feedback what is going on for families as well as being able to signpost parents to useful resources and support."

Sharlene Bouche-Carter - Board member
"I joined the board as I felt I had a lot of lived experiences to share. I also advocate for other parent/carers who would like to see change too. My biggest achievement would have to be seeing a real change in the community and being a part of a team on the board.
I have a lot of lived experience and knowledge of SEN having 4 children with additional needs. I have also having worked with adults who have additional needs in the past too."

Fiona Wallace - Board member
"
A mother of two teenagers, small business owner and former military wife. I joined the parent board just before the pandemic keen to be the voice of parents with teenagers and discuss the challenges we face. I am so proud of being a board member and what we have achieved over the years."
